Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
What do Jimmie Johnson and Junior have in common? They both need to win this weekend or at least place in the top 5. Given his recent performance, a top 10 would be a good day for Junior.
Since Talladega is a crap shoot, what will it take for Junior to have a good run this weekend?
• He’ll need a lot of friends, which he doesn’t have.
• He’ll need confidence, which he doesn’t have.
• He’ll need a good car which…you can finish the sentence.
Jimmie clearly has the equipment and a crew chief that knows what it takes to make his car better during the race. The problem I see with Jimmie this weekend is that he’s not looking forward to this race. Does he lack confidence? Maybe, and here’s why. Continue reading →

Junior Nation is in despair. Dale Earnhardt Jr. is having the worst season of his career and his fans want answers.
Their suspicions that something is awry at Hendrick Motorsports were recently inflamed after comments made by Tony Gibson.
Gibson, former crew chief for Jr. in 2007, doesn’t believe Earnhardt is getting what he needs at HMS and called for a major team overhaul. He recently spoke with ESPN reporter David Newton and expressed his concerns.
“It’s going to have to be the right situation and the right group of guys who believe in him,” Gibson said. “Give Dale Jr. what Dale Jr. wants, what he needs to drive the race car, and he’ll be fine.” Continue reading →

Sports writers across the country have already awarded the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship to Jimmie Johnson. His near perfect season and his dominance at these last five racetracks definitely make him the man to beat.
Does this mean that the other drivers in the Chase have given up? Nothing could be further from the truth.
Just ask four time champion Jeff Gordon. He currently sits third in points and thinks his position may give him an edge. While Johnson may have to play it a little safe to protect his lead, Gordon can afford to take some chances.
“I think that’s the one advantage that we have right now,” he said, “that we’re far enough back to where we don’t have really a whole lot to lose. It’s their championship to lose.” Continue reading →

Mike Wallace and his 21 year-old daughter, Chrissy, are set to make history by competing against each other at next week’s Mountain Dew 250 Fueled by Fred’s, at Talladega Super Speedway. Mike is excited to continue the Wallace tradition in NASCAR and Chrissy is looking to make a name for herself.
After an impressive run in the truck series last year, she was hoping for a full time ride this year but has been sidelined due to a lack of sponsorship. It’s been a frustrating year but she’s thankful for the opportunity that Rick Ware Racing has given her to compete in at least two races for them this season.
Chrissy looks forward to racing her Dad and is grateful for the chance to showcase her talent in front of other drivers and owners.
“Racing against my dad, it’s something that we’ve always wanted to do,” she said. Continue reading →

Martinsville Speedway is one of NASCAR’s most celebrated race tracks and has always been a fan favorite. Its history is intertwined with that of stock car racing and it reflects the colorful traditions of NASCAR.
Located in Ridgeway, VA just south of Martinsville, it is the shortest track in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. This unique half-mile paper clip shaped oval is the only track that was on the schedule in the first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season and still hosts the series today.
The track, built in 1947 by H. Clay Earles, opened as a dirt track. Red Byron won the 50-lap feature race and took home a $2,000 purse. Continue reading →

NASCAR television ratings are down, race attendance is down and fans are tuning out. The reason why is obvious.
Fan favorite Dale Earnhardt Jr. is having the worst season of his driving career. His frustration is palpable and the look on his face says it all.
On Friday afternoon at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, he finally revealed how difficult this season has been.
“I’m about to the end of my rope on it. I’ve been riding it out, but there comes a point where you don’t want to ride it out no more. You’ve just had enough.”
One day later, Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick commented on the trials of the 88 team and interim Crew Chief, Lance McGrew. For the moment, he seems content to keep the status quo and hold off on making any further changes. Continue reading →

On Wednesday Junior Johnson was one of the first five inductees into the NASCAR Hall of Fame, joining Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Bill France Sr. and Bill France Jr.
Johnson was deeply honored and somewhat shocked to be included in this group of NASCAR pioneers.
“It’s probably the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me,” he said.
Though some have questioned Junior Johnson’s inclusion in the first class of NASCAR’s Hall of Fame, he is arguably one of the most colorful and successful figures in the history of stock car racing. Continue reading →
